POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating – Stops Rust Permanently, 128 oz, Semi-gloss Black

Protect metal with a hard, moisture-driven barrier

POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating is designed to stop rust at the source by bonding to prepared rusted, sandblasted, and seasoned metal. When it dries, it forms a rock-hard, non-porous shell that resists moisture, salt, and everyday wear. Because it is UV sensitive, top coating is advised for areas that will see prolonged sun exposure, while shaded surfaces may maintain protection without a topcoat.

Key benefits

• Creates a moisture-cured, hammer-tough barrier on metal surfaces, reducing future rust exposure.
• Adheres to rusted, sandblasted, and seasoned metal for durable protection.
• Non-porous finish helps resist moisture and corrosive contaminants.
• Tolerates porous substrates like wood, fiberglass, concrete when surfaces are properly prepared.
• UV-exposed areas can be top-coated for added color and durability.

How to use (quick guidelines)

• Prepare the surface by removing grease and oils with the water-based Cleaner Degreaser, then treat with Metal Prep to etch and neutralize remaining rust.
• Stir the coating thoroughly without shaking, then apply thin coats—two coats minimum for best protection.
• Allow each coat to dry to the touch in about 2–5 hours; full cure develops over time.
• Topcoat in sun-exposed areas to maintain color and longevity of the finish.

Real-world use cases include automotive parts, farm equipment, industrial machinery, marine hardware, and construction components. The coating also offers surface tolerance on porous substrates, expanding where it can be applied. While it aims to provide robust rust defense, follow prep and coating guidelines for optimal results.
