Keyless cars unlock when they detect the key nearby. Thieves use a relay device to pick up the key's signal through your front door and extend it to the car. A Faraday pouch shields the key so there is no signal to relay.

How do I check that my pouch is working?

Put the key in the pouch, seal it, and stand next to the car. If the door handle does not unlock and the car will not start with the pouch inside, the shielding is doing its job. Test again every few months as the lining wears.

Should I also use a steering wheel lock?

A visible steering wheel lock is a strong deterrent and covers theft methods a Faraday pouch cannot, such as key cloning through the OBD port. Many UK owners use both.
