Yes. A dash cam is legal on UK roads as long as it does not obstruct your view. Mount it behind the rear-view mirror, within the area swept by the wipers but outside the driver's direct line of sight, and route the cable neatly along the headlining.

Do I need a hardwire kit?

Only for parking mode. Powered from the 12V socket, a dash cam records while the ignition is on. A hardwire kit connects to the fuse box with a low-voltage cut-off, so the camera can watch the car while parked without flattening the battery.

Will UK insurers accept dash cam footage?
