How many lumens do I need for garage work?

For close-up work under the bonnet 300 to 600 lumens is plenty and easier on the eyes. Lighting a whole bay or driveway at night calls for 2,000 lumens or more. Most rechargeable lights let you step the output down to stretch the run time.

Are these lights battery-platform tools?

Some are. Bare-tool work lights such as the DEWALT 20V MAX range use the same battery packs as your drill and impact wrench and ship without a battery. Others have a built-in rechargeable cell and charge over USB-C.

Can I use a work light outdoors in the rain?

Check the IP rating on each listing. IP65 and IP66 lights shrug off rain and hose spray; lights without a rating should be kept under cover.
